Pages

Besides courses, HiLMS has pages: the front page, the course listing, the page your students land on, a privacy policy, and whatever else you decide to write. They are built from the same blocks as a lesson (Lessons and blocks).

This is not a website builder. There is no page tree and no nesting — a page is a title, an address and a stack of blocks, and a visitor finds it from a menu you built (Menus).

Every page is yours. None of them is special, none of them has an address HiLMS insists on, and every one of them can be renamed, unpublished or deleted.

Pages (Strony) shows the title, the address, the language where the site speaks more than one, the status badge, who may read it, and when it last changed. Filter by status, by audience or by language. Each row offers Zobacz, which opens the page on the site in a new tab, Edytuj and Usuń.

There is no “delete all these” — a page you want gone goes one at a time.

Details (Szczegóły), in the wide left column:

  • Tytuł — required.
  • Adres (slug) — generated from the title when you leave it empty, and never changed afterwards by a title change, so a link somebody shared keeps working. HiLMS refuses an address the application already uses (admin, login, design, a language code, and so on) and says so; pick another.
  • Opis dla wyszukiwarek — up to 160 characters, shown in search results.

Treść (Content), under it and only once the page has been saved: the block editor. Every block a lesson has except the question and the quiz, plus five of its own — see Lessons and blocks.

The sidebar, on the right and staying in view as the blocks go on:

  • Zapisz, Anuluj and Zobacz;
  • Konspekt — the outline of what you have written;
  • Publikacja:
    • Status — Szkic or Opublikowana.
    • Kto może czytać — Wszyscy, or Zalogowani, which asks a reader to sign in and confirm their address first. Use it for a page meant for your students.
    • Szablon — the layout the page is drawn in. There is one to choose from, Zwykła strona, unless your installation’s theme adds more.
    • Język — the language this page is written in. Its address carries that language unless it is the default one. Locked once the page has translations.
  • Tłumaczenia — the same page in the other languages, with Dodaj tłumaczenie;
  • at the bottom, Usuń.

Three links are drawn by the application itself rather than by a menu, and Ustawienia → Strony serwisu (Settings → Site pages, administrators only) is where you say which page each of them is:

Setting Means
Strona główna The page read at / — the front door
Lista kursów Where “all courses” links and a category go
Uczestnicy lądują na Where somebody without a panel lands after signing in

Each offers every published page and Nie wybrano. Leaving one empty is a real answer: the link is then simply not drawn. Not every site wants a page listing every course, and nothing breaks without one — the “all courses” button under the latest courses disappears, a category on a course card stops being a link, and a student signing in lands on the front page instead.

A page you choose as the home page is read at / from then on, and its own address quietly redirects there.

Choosing a page here picks it in every language at once: HiLMS stores the group of translations, not one row, so a Polish visitor reads the Polish one and an English visitor the English one, falling back to the default language’s where a translation has not been written yet.

The five pages a new installation starts with

Section titled “The five pages a new installation starts with”

An installation that has never had a page is handed five, in its default language, and then left alone:

Page Holds
Strona główna A banner with a button to the courses, then the newest courses
Kursy A heading and the whole catalogue, with its search and filters
Moje kursy A heading and the reader’s own courses; Zalogowani only
Polityka prywatności The template below
Regulamin The other one

They are ordinary pages. Rewrite them, rename them, move the settings above to different pages, delete the ones you do not want. They are written once and never handed back: an installation that has any page at all is left exactly as it is.

The two legal pages are templates, not legal advice. Each opens with a callout saying so, and the text is full of […] placeholders — the name and address of whoever runs the site, the shop, the retention periods, the supervisory authority, the contact address. Fill them in and adjust the rest to what your site really does. The privacy policy already covers what HiLMS itself stores (account, progress, quiz results, server logs), how a person downloads their data and deletes their account, and which cookies are used; change it if you add anything.

Their addresses are also what Google and Meta ask for before a social-login app may go live.

A page that is not published answers “not found” for a visitor. Open it yourself and you see it with a notice at the top saying it is a preview.

A page lives at one lowercase segment: /o-nas, /kontakt, /faq. Nothing deeper, and the same page in another language sits behind that language’s code (/en/about-us).

A page can never take over an address the application uses — nor a language code, since /en is the English front page — which is why a reserved address is refused while you type it rather than quietly breaking later. Only single-segment addresses are taken, so kursy is yours for the asking even though /kursy/jakis-kurs is a course.

Each language has its own pages, and a page written in two languages is two pages linked together, exactly as a course is (Languages).

  • Dodaj tłumaczenie copies the page — blocks, template, audience and all, showing the same pictures from the media library — as a draft, so nothing appears in the new language until somebody has read it through and published it.
  • The three settings above follow: a visitor reading in English gets the English home page when there is one, and the default language’s when there is not, so /en is never blank.
  • A visitor who opens a page in the wrong language is taken to its translation when there is one.
