Students and access
Two words that mean different things
Section titled “Two words that mean different things”HiLMS keeps who may open a course separate from where somebody is in it.
- An entitlement (Uprawnienie) is a grant: this person may open this course, granted by whom, when, why, until when, and whether it was taken back. Entitlements are never deleted — together they are the history behind a purchase.
- An enrolment (Zapis) is the seat: the student’s status in the course, their progress and the lesson they stopped at. There is one per student and course, and HiLMS keeps it in step with the entitlements by itself.
So: to give somebody a course you grant an entitlement, and the seat follows. To take it away you revoke the entitlement, and the seat closes.
An entitlement covers one course, and a course is written in one language. Somebody who should have the same course in two languages gets two entitlements — which a shop can ask for in a single call (see Languages).
Where access comes from
Section titled “Where access comes from”| Source (Źródło) | Means |
|---|---|
| Samodzielny | The student joined a free course themselves |
| Panel | Somebody granted it in the panel, and the entitlement says who |
| API | An external shop granted it after a payment |
| Konsola | Somebody with server access ran a command |
Granting access
Section titled “Granting access”From Enrolments (Zapisy), from Entitlements (Uprawnienia), or from the Kursanci table on a course’s edit page — the form is the same and the button is Przyznaj dostęp:
- Student (Kursant) — only people with the student role are offered. Search by name or email.
- Course (Kurs) — already filled in when you start from the course.
- Access until (Dostęp do) — leave empty for access that never ends. The field says which clock it is in beside its label, which is your own if you set one and the site’s otherwise, so the moment you type is the moment access ends (The panel).
- Note (Notatka) — why, for whoever reads this later.
The student is emailed that their place is ready. If their email is not verified yet, the message carries a link with which they set their password and start straight away, so a new buyer gets exactly one email.
Granting access to somebody who already has it does nothing and sends nothing.
Extending and revoking
Section titled “Extending and revoking”On Uprawnienia:
- Przedłuż sets a new expiry date. The seat is updated at once.
- Cofnij dostęp asks for a reason and ends the entitlement. Nothing is deleted: the row stays with its revocation date and reason.
On Zapisy the row action Cofnij dostęp does the same thing to every live entitlement that student has for that course at once, which is usually what you want.
A student whose access was revoked cannot join the course again themselves, even if it is free. Grant access again to let them back in.
Expiry
Section titled “Expiry”A student can see an expiry coming: while their access is still live, Moje kursy carries a badge saying Dostęp do … with the date, written on that student’s own clock. An expiry nobody is shown is an expiry nobody can act on.
Access with an expiry date closes itself when the date passes: the seat’s status becomes Wygasły and the student sees “Dostęp wygasł” on the course page and in Moje kursy. HiLMS checks for this every hour, so you never have to.
If the course is free, the student can simply join again. Otherwise grant or extend.
When somebody holds several entitlements for one course, the seat follows the most generous one: the furthest date, or no limit at all if any one of them has none.
The three tables
Section titled “The three tables”An instructor sees all three read-only, narrowed to the courses they are named on: their own students and scores, and nobody else’s.
Enrolments (Zapisy)
Section titled “Enrolments (Zapisy)”One row per student and course: the student with their email, the course, Postęp as a percentage, the status, the enrolment date, and optionally the expiry and completion dates. Filter by course or status. The statuses are Aktywny, Ukończony, Wygasły and Dostęp cofnięty.
Nothing here is created or edited by hand — it is a derived record. You grant and revoke, and it follows.
Entitlements (Uprawnienia)
Section titled “Entitlements (Uprawnienia)”The audit trail: student, course, source, status (Aktywne, Wygasłe, Cofnięte), who granted it — a person, an API client, or System for a command — the shop’s own reference, and the dates. Filter by course, source or status.
Nothing here is edited or deleted either. That is the point of it.
Quiz attempts (Podejścia do quizów)
Section titled “Quiz attempts (Podejścia do quizów)”Read-only: student, course, lesson, quiz title, score, whether it was passed, and when. Filter by course or by passed.
Quizzes, from the student’s side
Section titled “Quizzes, from the student’s side”A quiz block in a lesson shows its title, an introduction, the questions and Sprawdź odpowiedzi.
- Grading happens on the server. The right answers are never sent to the browser.
- The student sees their score (Twój wynik: …%), whether they passed (Zaliczony / Jeszcze niezaliczony), which questions were right, and the explanation you wrote for each.
- The pass mark (Próg zaliczenia) is yours to set, 70 % by default.
- The attempt limit (Limit podejść) is optional. Leave it empty for unlimited tries; otherwise the student is told how many are left, and when they run out Spróbuj ponownie disappears.
- The best score is remembered and shown.
- Every submission is recorded and appears in Podejścia do quizów.
- Passing a quiz unlocks “Zakończ i kontynuuj” in that lesson, so a quiz can gate progress through the course.
Somebody who may preview the course but has no seat — an editor checking their work — takes the quiz in Tryb ćwiczeń: it grades and shows everything, and stores nothing. A visitor with no access is asked to enrol.
Editing a quiz
Section titled “Editing a quiz”The quiz block asks for a title, an introduction, the pass mark, an optional attempt limit and the questions. Each question has its text, a Typ odpowiedzi (one correct answer or several), two to six answers with Poprawna ticked on the right ones, and an explanation shown afterwards.
The editor refuses to save a question with fewer than two answers, with no correct answer, or with several correct answers on a single-choice question, and tells you which question number is at fault.
Progress and completion
Section titled “Progress and completion”A lesson counts as done when the student presses Zakończ i kontynuuj. When every lesson of the course is done, the course is marked complete, the date is recorded, and the student is emailed. The course stays in Moje kursy so they can go back to it.
